NEC LCD2190UX and Samsung XL20
It is hard to say these monitors are direct competitors. They rather provide customers with some freedom of choice between these models each having both advantages and drawbacks.
If the price for SyncMaster XL20 were $5000 no competition would be possible since professional NEC and EIZO monitors feature LED lighting in this price range and have much higher capabilities and better calibration options. However XL20 is twice as cheaper and therefore its direct rival is NEC SpectraView 2190 within this price range.
Another point is that Samsung has managed to show us that LED lighting isn’t so expensive in itself and it is quite possible to produce a monitor featuring such panel at a considerably high yet adequate price. It is safe to suppose that we are about to witness other releases of LED monitors at a price comparable with that of XL20, and eventually such models will drive out all other variants from the professional market.
